Visual Storytelling
As an Aboriginal artist and storyteller, I believe there is something powerful about the stories that emerge when people gather together.
Visual scribing is a practice of deep listening and translating conversations, ideas, emotions and collective knowledge into visual stories, created in real time.
It's more than simply recording what is said. It's about listening for what matters, noticing the connections between ideas, honouring the voices in the room and creating something meaningful from the conversations being shared.
My approach is informed by my identity as an Aboriginal woman, my relationship with storytelling and my belief that art has the capacity to hold, communicate and connect us to knowledge in ways that words alone sometimes cannot.
What does visual scribing look like?
Visual scribing can take place at community gatherings, conferences, workshops, yarning circles, wellbeing events and other spaces where people come together to share knowledge and ideas.
As conversations unfold, I listen and respond visually, weaving together words, imagery, symbols and themes into an evolving artwork.
The finished piece becomes a visual reflection of the gathering. Something that can be revisited, shared and used to carry the conversations beyond the day itself.
My approach
I approach each space with curiosity, respect and a commitment to listening deeply and feeling into the space.
Rather than arriving with a predetermined story, I allow the artwork to emerge from the people, conversations and energy of the gathering.
I see this practice as an opportunity to honour collective voices, make connections visible and create a lasting reflection of what has been shared.
Let's work together
